Prop Will Collier (East 2009) was a member of the England side who finished runners-up to New Zealand in the IRB Junior World Championship in Italy.
England beat Scotland, Ireland and Canada in the group stage and then defeated France in the semi-finals. However, although England led 7-3 at the quarter mark in the final, and then were within a point going into the last quarter, they eventually went down 22-33 to the junior All Blacks.
Will, who signed for Harlequins Academy two years ago and has also played for England at U-16 and U-18 level, started two matches and came on as a replacement in the final.
He captained Cranleigh at junior level, toured South Africa with Rosslyn Park U-12 and went to Toulon with England U-18. He said: “As well as the promotion winning match at Loughborough, a Cranleigh match played in heavy mud against Christchurch Boys, of New Zealand, stands out for me.”
Will’s grandfather, Larry Webb, played for the Barbarians, captained Bedford and won four caps for England at tighthead prop in 1959. In three of those four games he played alongside Jeff Clements, who was the last Old Cranleighan to win full international honours for England.
