New Mentoring Programme launched by OC Society

As the OC Society looks to expand the range of things on offer to OCs, we are delighted to report that Seb Sharpe (East, 2011), our 2011-12 Intern, has devised and is implementing a new OC Mentoring Project (OCMP).

The aim of this is to create a network of career advisors and work experience providers among OCs across a wide variety of professions.

“After starting this initiative we have discovered that various other public schools run a similar program on a much larger scale,” Seb explained. “The OCMP currently invites OCs to participate via email. The invitations are sent out on the basis of individual career research and success.

“I believe that we can learn that the key to success is good publicity. We will therefore advertise the program on all forms of social network, we will send out an information sheet with an attached application form, and from there the program will expand.

“I will create an A4 information sheet with an attached application form including career interest, year of leaving etc. I will post on the wall of each society page on LinkedIn and any other forms of network I can find. From the replies I get I can then filter out all those suitable to be mentors and mentees.”
