The OCRFC 1st XV currently sit mid table in Surrey League One, with a record of four wins and three defeats. After a comprehensive defeat in the opening fixture, the team has settled as injured players return, giving cause for optimism for the New Year.
Led by OC Ben O’Neill, the side contains several OCs from the unbeaten school team of 2006, as well as new recruits like Tom Foster, now employed at the Prep School.
School coach Andy Houston runs vibrant training sessions each Wednesday evening, and the club has enjoyed an exponential growth in the mini rugby section, now regularly hosting over 250 children each Sunday morning.
A splendid Golden Oldies occasion saw 60 stalwarts enjoy both lunch and victory over Old Wellingtonians, and the club warmly welcomed the Headmaster Martin Reader to TD for the first time.
The OCHC 1st XI are also sitting mid table in Premier One, the feeder to the National League, after back-to-back promotions. With six true OCs in the starting line-up for the first time in a number of years the hard work to integrate OCs and have them joint the club is paying dividends. One hopes that more will follow.
We are going to be a genuine contender to win the league and enter The National League in the next two seasons if we can attract the budding OC talent that is currently at university or recently left school that could join us.
The Ladies, after a poor start, have put together a run of four wins in five matches and have climbed to mid-table and if their current form continues they could be pushing for promotion in the New Year.
Like the OCRFC, the Sunday mini hockey has very quickly become hugely popular with more than 150 children attending the sessions.
