Oxford celebrate their win

Two Old Cranleighans featured on the wings for Oxford in their record-breaking sixth Varsity match victory at Twickenham on December 10.

Henry Lamont (East 2012) captained the side on his fourth appearance in the fixture but unfortunately had to go off in the first minute with a head injury after a tackle on Cambridge’s British Lion Jamie Roberts.  Lamont was the first Cranleighan to win four Blues in the fixture and the first since HP Jacob (East 1922) to captain one of the sides.  Jacob would have also made four outings for the Dark Blues had he not aggravated a knee injury in the build-up to the match.

Lamont admitted that watching from the sidelines was far from easy. “It was stressful, but I am so proud of the boys. It was just incredible.”

On the other wing, Tom Stileman (Cubitt 2014), making his first appearance, had an outstanding game and was named Man of the Match.  “There was a sense of danger when the ball came to Stileman,” wrote Paul Hayward in the Daily Telegraph.
