Alan Cope (Cubitt 2006) is one of a number of cyclists who this Friday (September 9) will be peddling from Perpignan in France, up and over the mighty Pyrenees, to sun-kissed Barcelona, 24 hours later. The route is 180 miles long and includes around 2000 meters of climbing in the heat.
Le Tour de Chop started six years ago with three friends cycling from London to Cardiff and has grown rapidly since. The total raised for Cancer Research UK is now over £50,000.
Despite being a renowned sportsman, Alan is wary of what lies ahead. “I’ve not owned a bike since being knocked off commuting in 2013. Both my legs and my bum aren’t going to be ready for this, let alone the mountain climbs. Fingers crossed a few hours on a spin bike, the group camaraderie, some sporting will power and a good cause will get me through it.”
