Earlier this year Oli Reid (East, 2012-2016) cycled with friend Sandy Marr (East, 2011-2016) from London to Paris. Oli was cycling to raise money for Project Trust, an educational charity, specialising in overseas volunteering placements for school leavers. He raised just under £5k with the ride which started in Richmond Park on 7th April, they cycled 215 miles in heavy rain, strong winds and the odd bit of sun finishing on the afternoon of the 9th under the Eiffel Tower,
Oli had been selected by the charity for a 12-month placement in a school in Valparaiso, on the coast of Chile not far from the capital, Santiago. As of September he is teaching English to underprivileged children in the area – being able to speak English greatly improves your chances of employment in Chile, so children from disadvantaged backgrounds get a huge benefit from learning English from a native speaker.
