DOING ONE’S DUTY

After years of contributing to local publications, Mike Walsham (East 1957) has turned his hand to writing a book and his first effort, Monique, published in April 2019 received excellent reviews.

Monique is a compelling and fast-paced story of a British agent in the early part of WWII. “A close relative of mine was in the Intelligence Service in WWII,” Mike explained. “As with most people, he spoke only a little about what he did but I learnt enough to use a few things as the basis of a historical fiction novel. I have spent four years researching and writing the book and have spent many interesting holidays in France visiting places that are used during his escape from the Gestapo and the French police. The resulting work is fiction, but the places – particularly in France – are real.”

Mike’s new book Doing One’s Duty is a fascinating sequel to the first with the use of actual events and charcters in a fictitious manner gaining it excellent reviews.
