Ironman Richard Hume’s exploits have been well documented in various OC publications – his most recent feat was to row the Atlantic – and now he has launched a business at www.challengechaser.com writing bespoke sporting programmes for people’s sporting events.
Hume, who is a personal trainer, has compiled a remarkable list of achievements which would make even fit OCs wince. Aside from the row, he has several ironman competitions under his belt, as well as a triple iron triathlon event in 2008 which consisted of a 7.2-mile swim, 336-mile bike ride and a 78.6-mile run, which he finished in 52 hours 44 minutes.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that when you decide to do an event and get a training plan out of magazines or from ex-professional athletes, they don’t seem to consider you, your lifestyle, your family or your work,” Hume said. “Mine are different, it is all about you.
“I’ve launched this now as I know that in the next two to three weeks London Marathon places will be decided and many will need clear and realistic plans to achieve this. I think I can do this for them, but I just need the introduction.”
As another part of the enterprise he is starting motivational speaking. “It’s not necessarily based on a specific event I’ve done, but perhaps on all of them … the preparation and execution side of things or just general motivation and how these skills can be referred back to the business world. This is obviously open to schools and clubs in addition to businesses.”
