Hugh Jones (1 North, 1961-66) writes: On Saturday 5 September 2015 the 45th 1 North House Supper, which on this occasion was in fact a lunch, was held at Cranleigh to coincide with part of the school’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
In all 19 of us met up for this reunion which started with a drinks reception followed by an excellent 3-course lunch in the Reading Room. Afterwards some of us took the opportunity to have a look round the school and catch up on the various changes which had taken place since our previous visits, while others took up the invitation to watch either a rugby match between the current 1st XV and an OC’s XV or a hockey match between the current girls 1st XI and an OC team of recent leavers, organised as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations. The afternoon finished with some of us taking refreshments in the pavilion.
Our thanks are due to Vickie Ingle and the Cranleigh School catering team who organised the excellent lunch and to Mike Payne who co-ordinated the afternoon’s proceedings. A full list of those attending appears below. (Mike – not sure we should include the list of attendees – won’t encourage any younger 1 North to take part as it appears that they are all of a certain era and would be good to encourage some “new blood”?
The next 1 North House Supper is planned sometime in 2017, either at Cranleigh or maybe returning to London again at St. Stephen’s Tavern, the home of the original 1 North House Supper, depending on which suits the majority of the regulars. So if you are reading this article and would like to take part in 2017, especially if you have not attended one of these events before, then please e-mail me at hepajones@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from many of you.
