Angus Dahl and Ollie Pope finished their respective cricket seasons in fitting style by being selected to play against each other at Lord’s. Ollie had the honour of captaining the MCC Schools side, with Angus representing England School’s Cricket Association U16s. Both boys had an excellent season for Cranleigh 1st XI and gained selection for the Lord’s match from over 2,500 cricketers.
It is the second time Cranleigh have had two boys playing in the prestigious match following Will Langmead and Michael Burgess playing in 2010. Angus and Ollie both enjoyed busy summers on the cricket front, with Angus representing the Surrey Academy and Ollie playing for London & East England, as well as for Surrey 2nd XI (where he kept wicket behind Mahela Jayawardene who was batting for Sussex).
On the day at Lord’s Ollie had the bragging rights with the MCC winning by two wickets. However, both boys can be very proud of their selection and I am sure will cherish the experience, as very few people get the honour of playing at the Home of Cricket. Given that both harbour ambitions of a career in professional cricket, this will hopefully have been the first of many matches for them at Lord’s.
