Andy Houston writes: On the 7th February 2015, eight OCs from the 2001 year group and a handful of other players came to play the Schools 1st XI in the annual Tom Wheeler football match.
Last year the School won 3-1, and this time they played really well to record a 5-0 victory. Captain Sam Trusty, after several minutes trying to catch his breath, was gracious in defeat and full of praise for the School side. Manager Tristan Rosenfeldt, who couldn’t play because of injury, commented that the side were missing usual stalwarts Chris Roe and David Bradbeer and noted the older and much slower bodies who were on show.
The Tom Wheeler Sports club was set up in memory of former Head Boy Tom Wheeler who passed away in 2005. The club have had mixed fortunes having won only 4 of the 17 matches played across a number of sports including rugby, football, hockey and cricket. It remains a great way to get Tom’s friends together to remember him. Many thanks to Brian Browne who helped put on a wonderful spread after the game, Dave the referee and the School for hosting us so well.
It was great to see so many familiar faces back at the School. The next Tom Wheeler sports fixture will be a golf event this summer followed by the football re-match in 2016.
