Old Cranleighan and former Cranleigh captain of girls’ cricket, Chloe Allison (South, 2007-12), has been elected captain of Cambridge Women’s cricket for 2015. She has shadowed the role as vice-captain of the team during the current season, playing recently for Cambridge against Oxford in the annual women’s Varsity cricket match on the Nursery Ground at Lord’s.
Chloe is the first Old Cranleighan to play for Cambridge in the fixture in which OC Lottie Waller played for Oxford a few years ago.

“It’s great to play at Lord’s – really exciting and slightly daunting – and it’s good to feel part of the long Varsity tradition,” Chloe said. “I’d never played a competitive cricket match until I came to the Senior School but my experience at Cranleigh left me with a real enjoyment of the game. There are some people who worked very hard to help me develop as a player, especially Sarah Greenwood, Stuart Welch and Alex Forsdike who put in such a lot of time and energy.”
Sadly Cambridge lost the game after a poor batting display, chasing a perfectly gettable Oxford total of 204-8 in this 50 over game. During the Oxford innings, half-blue Chloe bowled her leg-spin effectively and economically, completing a full spell of 10 overs with figures of 2 wickets for 27.
She commented: “It was very frustrating to lose this game when we simply had to bat for 50 overs and the game would have been won: but I’m determined we’ll be better next year.”
