FROM CITY LIFE TO PROPERTY START-UP

James Strachan (Cubitt, 1998-2003) has recently embarked on a new career. After nearly 10 years in the city he decided that it was time for a change.

From Cranleigh he took a year out travelling and then studied at Newcastle University. It was here that he discovered his spark and enthusiasm for innovation and he set up two companies while working in the city.  He eventually left to pursue one full-time. This led to working with various property companies and is how he came across new start up Residently.

Residently is trying to change the rental model in London. They offer landlords up to five years of guaranteed monthly income with no void periods or fees. The other side of the model is their residents. Once signed up and approved Residently allows their residents to move freely within their network. There are not any tenancy fees and they sort out all utilities and internet prior to the residents move in date. Residents are offered additional services such as cleaning, linen change, art rental, flower delivery, click and collect etc.

“It was a massive risk leaving my job in the city but, for me, it was the right time to follow my instincts. I have now ditched the suit and tie and am enjoying the buzz of being part of a new, potentially, game changing environment.”

Residently has just gone through a very successful funding round and is looking at significant growth over the next 6 months. They have been featured in various online publications such as Which?, Sunday Times and The Daily Telegraph. James would be happy to talk to any OC with a property to rent with in London zone 1 or 2 or who is looking to for a new place to live.
