Alastair Callender (Loveday, 1999-2004) shares his experiences in the world of superyacht charter

Following A levels at Cranleigh, Alastair graduated with a 1st class honours degree in Boat Design from Coventry University. He then founded his own yacht design company and went on to receive various international awards.
Continuing a varied career within the superyacht industry, taking him to many parts of the world, Alastair is now a Superyacht Charter Broker at Burgess Yachts – a leading international superyacht company, founded in 1975.

“The charter fee will vary based on the size, the year of build and the amenities of each yacht, as well as the cruising itinerary. ‘Clients charter yachts from around 20 metres (72ft) that have a weekly rate of about EUR 50,000, up to the largest charter yachts in the world that are over 93 metres (305ft) in length with a weekly rate of about EUR 1.5 million.
“There are never two days alike as a yacht charter specialist! I am passionate about superyachts and feel incredibility lucky to work in a sector that I love. One week I might have a client meeting in London followed by another in Silicon Valley. The next week I may be in Antigua to inspect a superyacht on behalf of a client, personally meet the crew and taste the food prepared by the chef that holds multiple Michelin Stars.”
